Both the Nebraska Wesleyan men's and women's track & field teams placed third at the 2009 GPAC Indoor Championships held Saturday (Feb. 21) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.

Doane College won the team title for both the men and the women, with Concordia University finishing second.
The NWU women had three first place finishes and broke two GPAC meet records on Saturday. Junior Jackie Spelts (Burwell, Neb.) was a multiple winner on the day. Spelts set a new GPAC meet record with a time of 17:29.73 to win the 5,000-meter run. She also won the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:15.32, to edge out teammate Bridget Baldwin who placed second in a time of 10:19.72.
Anne Kersenbrock (O'Neill, Neb.) was the other first place finisher for the Prairie Wolves. Kersenbrock set a new GPAC meet record while winning the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.46. Kersenbrock had a big day for NWU, taking home second place in the long jump with a mark of 18-3.25. She also placed third in the 60-meter dash, and was the lead runner in the 4x400 relay that placed sixth.
For the Nebraska Wesleyan men, Logan Watley (Lincoln, Neb.) had the top two finishes for the Prairie Wolves. Watley was NWU's lone GPAC champion as he defended his title by winning the 1 mile run in a time of 4:!6.14. Watley also placed second in the 3,000 meters crossing the tape in a time of 8:41.90.
The Prairie Wolves 4x800 meter relay team also placed second on the day. Running on the team were Eric Noel, Zach Harsin, Brandon Schlautman and Quinn Lewandowski.
NWU will host the NWU Indoor Open on Saturday (Feb. 28) at Knight Fieldhouse.
