The Nebraska Wesleyan University Track and Field program continues to receive accolades from the 2009 track and field season. Eight athletes, six men and two women, were named to the United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team.
Javelin thrower Dylan Aylward (Jr., Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southwest HS), sprinters Derek Carson (Sr., Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Pius X HS), Matt Glassnapp (Sr., Beaver Lake, Neb., Conestoga HS), and Josh Wall (Fr., Grant, Neb., Perkins County HS), hurdler Kevin Janata (So., Howells, Neb./Howells HS), and distance runner Kyle Wagner (Jr., Fairbury, Neb./Fairbury HS) were named to the men’s team.
Carson and Glassnapp each earned three All-American awards at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships while Wall earned All-American status by running on Nebraska Wesleyan’s 4x400 meter relay that placed third.
Distance runner Bridget Baldwin (Sr., Omaha, Neb./Millard West HS) and horizontal jumper Megan Mejstrik (Jr., Schuyler, Neb./Schuyler Central HS) were named to the women’s All-Academic team.
In addition to the individual accolades, both Nebraska Wesleyan University track and field teams were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams. The NWU women carried a 3.450 team grade point average (GPA) in 2008-09 and had the 26th highest GPA of the 99 teams that received the award, while the Nebraska Wesleyan men carried a 3.250 GPA and had the 20th highest GPA of the 51 schools that received the award.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must compile a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event. To be nominated as an USTFCCA All-Academic Team, the team must carry a minimum 3.100 cumulative GPA.
