Janata Named Academic All-American

Nebraska Wesleyan University senior Track & Field athlete Kevin Janata was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Men’s Track & Cross Country Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Janata (Howells, Neb.) graduated from NWU with a 3.85 GPA in History/Social Science Education. Janata was a two-time NCAA III All-American in track this season placing third in the 110 hurdles at the 2011 Outdoor Championships and fifth in the 55-meter hurdles at the 2011 Indoor Championships. He was named the Central Region Track Athlete of the Year for the Outdoor Season.

The Howells H.S., graduate ends his career as a three-time All-American and is third on the NWU All-Time charts in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.24 seconds. Janata also won a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and was the NCAA Elite 88 Award winner at the 2010 NCAA III Track Championships.

This marks the seventh straight year that a NWU male track/cross country athlete has been named an Academic All-American®. A total of 11 NWU athletes have earned 19 Academic All-America® awards for the men’s track/cross country program.

Nebraska Wesleyan University now has 109 Academic All-America® awards. NWU currently ranks tied for 12th, with UCLA, among all schools at all levels of competition for its number of Academic All-Americans and has the most Academic All-America® awards in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).

Student-athletes must meet four criteria to earn Capital One Academic All- America® honors: 1) must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better, 2) must have at least two terms of attendance at the institution, 3) must be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility, 4) must be a starter or key reserve in their respective sport.
