Janata Named First-Team Academic All-District

Nebraska Wesleyan University senior Kevin Janata was named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District men’s track & field team that was announced on Thursday (June 2). Janata was voted to the District VII First-Team in the college division.

Kevin JanataHe is now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America® honors. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team for men’s track & field will be announced on June 21.

Janata (Howells, Neb.) has a 3.84 GPA as a Hiistory/Social Science Education major. This is the second straight season that he has been an Academic All-District VII selection after earning Second-Team honors in 2010.

The Howells H.S., graduate was a two-time NCAA III All-American in track this season. He placed third in the 110 hurdles at the 2011 Outdoor Track Championships and was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles at the Indoor Championships. Janata was named the Central Region Track Athlete of the Year for the Outdoor season.

Janata ends his career as a three-time All-American as he was also fourth at the 2010 DIII Outdoor Championships during his junior season. He will finish third on the NWU all-time charts in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.24 seconds.

Student-athletes must meet four criteria to earn Capital One Academic All-District honors: 1) must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better, 2) must have at least two terms of attendance at the institution, 3) must be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility, 4) must be a starter or key reserve in their respective sport.

The All-District selection is determined by voting of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). District VII is comprised of NCAA Division II and Division III and NAIA institutions from the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
