Nebraska Wesleyan University Track and Field Head Coach Ted Bulling has been named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Central Region Men’s Coach of the Year. In addition, NWU assistant coach Derek Frese was named the USTFCCCA Central Region Women’s Assistant Coach-of-the-Year.

Bulling, who is in his 30th season coaching track and field this spring, has built the Nebraska Wesleyan track & field program into one of the top small college programs in the nation. Competing as an independent, Bulling led the Prairie Wolves to a No. 7 national ranking in D-III during the indoor season. Additionally, Nebraska Wesleyan has been ranked as the No. 1 team in the USTFCCCA Central Region for the entire season. NWU will have five entries in the NCAA III Indoor Championship meet with Elliott Bulling entering the meet as the No. 1 seed in the shot put.

During his tenure at Nebraska Wesleyan, Bulling has coached 36 national champions and 132 of his athletes have earned a total of 577 All-America Awards. He was also the Central Region Men’s Coach-of-the-Year last season during the outdoor season.

Frese earns women’s field assistant coach-of-the year for the second consecutive season after also earning the award during the 2010 outdoor season.

Frese, who is in his fourth season as the throws coach at NWU, had four provisional marks with one athlete making the field in both the weight throw and the shot put (Amanda Brichacek). Brichacek also set the school record in the weight throw with a toss of 57-3 ¾.

In addition, Frese coached Elliott Bulling to the top mark in the men’s shot put and a school record this season.
