Nebraska Wesleyan had solid performances from their distance runners and got an NCAA qualifying mark from Elliott Bulling in the shot put to lead the Prairie Wolves athletes at the NWU Invite held Friday (Jan. 21) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
NWU went 1-2-4-6 in the 5000 meter race for one highlight of the day. Ben Paben ran a 15:21.52 to win the race followed by Mike Rathje in second at 15:31.45. Ryan Osberg (15:33.93) was fourth with Johnny Rutford (16:03.81) taking sixth.
Bulling hit a provisional mark in the shot put with a toss of 51-5.50 to tie for second overall.
On the women's side, Malaina Huebert ran a time of 18:04.99 to place second in the 5000 meter run. Also for the women's distance runners, Meleia Oestmann was third in the 1 mile run while Kate Hannon was fourth in the 3000 meters and Ali Tewes was fourth in the 10000.
Nick Sawyer was another high finisher for NWU as he placed second in the 400 at 49.80.
