Nebraska Wesleyan's men's tennis team got their first victory of the season on Thursday (Mar. 18) as the Prairie Wolves edged Messiah, 5-4, in Hilton Head, S.C. Meanwhile, the NWU women won their third straight match as they blanked the College of Wooster, 9-0.
It wasn't easy for the men as they lost two of three doubles matches but took four of the six singles matches. The lone doubles team to win was at No. 3 doubles as Ryan McCarty and Johnny Landell won 8-1.
In singles play, Mike Larsen made easy work of Andrew Wismer, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Freshman Jordan Barret defeated Adam Sheir, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and McCarty won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Landell battled to a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 win at No. 6 singles for the final win of the day.
The women did not lose a single set in the match against the College of Wooster, despite playing without their No. 1 player Lexie Zoucha. All players moved up one spot and did not miss a beat as the Prairie Wolves improved to 4-5 overall after winning three in a row in Hilton Head.
The final match of the trip for the Prairie Wolves is Friday against Shepherd University.
