Women's Tennis Picks Up Second Win of Season

The Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team picked up their second win of the season as they defeated Smith College, 5-4, on their spring break trip in Hilton Head, S.C., on Monday morning (Mar. 15).

The Nebraska Wesleyan men fell to 0-6 on the season as they lost 8-1 to Manhattenville on Monday. It was the second day of the spring break trip for the Prairie Wolves teams. Both the men and women lost on Sunday to Nazareth College.

In the victory for the Prairie Wolves women, NWU won one doubles match then took four of the six singles matches. The freshmen duo of Taylor Powers and Terah Maloley won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles to improve to 4-2 on the season. The tandem of Powers and Maloley have four of NWU's five total doubles wins this season.

In singles action, junior Chelsea Henslee won her third straight match at No. 2 singles as she outlasted Nicole Anderson, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. Maloley won her second straight match at No. 3 singles winning 6-3, 6-3. Andrea Dasilva picked up her team high fourth victory of the season with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. The final win for NWU was at No. 6 singles as Molly Andrews rallied back to defeat Eunice Zhao, 0-6, 6-2, 11-9.

For the Nebraska Wesleyan men, the only victory on the day was at No. 1 singles when Nate Hoppe defeated Julian Oribe, 6-3, 6-3 to pick up his first singles victory of the season.

Both NWU tennis teams will play Scranton on Tuesday morning at 8 am.
