Men's Tennis Ends Season in GPAC Semifinals

The Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis team saw its 2012 season come to an end with a 5-2 loss to Hastings College in the GPAC Tournament Semifinals on Friday (May 4) in Fremont, Neb.

NWU had advanced to the semifinals with a 5-1 victory over Concordia University earlier in the day. The Prairie Wolves finish the 2012 season with a 4-16 overall record.

After losing to Concordia, 6-3, during the regular season the Prairie Wolves bounced back to defeat the Bulldogs in the tournament. NWU took two of the three doubles matches to get momentum heading into singles play.

Nate Hoppe won in two sets, 6-3, 6-1 over Jeremy Jank at No. 1 singles. The other two NWU victories were both comeback wins. Jordan Barrett rallied to defeat Danny Frastaci, 3-6, 6-1, 10-4 at No. 2 singles. Also rallying for the win was Seth Peters at No. 6 singles. Peters defeated Michael McCartney, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 to end the match.

In the semifinal match against Hastings, the Prairie Wolves were able to take two out of three doubles matches. Hoppe teammed up with Ryan McCarty to win No. 1 doubles, 8-3. Peters and Carey Haefele won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles to give NWU a 2-1 advantage heading to singles play. Hastings dominated the singles action as they won four matches in straight sets to end the match and advance to the championship match.
