For the first time since Doane re-started its tennis program in 1991, the Tigers defeated Nebraska Wesleyan University in a men's tennis dual. Doane won the match, 7-2, on Wednesday at the Haddix Center Tennis Courts in Crete, Neb.
It was the first tennis match ever played at the Haddix Tennis Courts.
Nebraska Wesleyan picked up one victory in doubles action as Nate Hoppe and Ryan McCarty won at #1 doubles over Ross Schulenberg and Tyler Johnson. It was a thrilling doubles match with Hoppe/McCarty winning 9-8 (7-3). The Tigers took the other two doubles matches, 8-6, and 8-4.
Doane (5-3, 1-0) then won five of the six singles matches with four of the five coming in straight sets. The only victory for the Prairie Wolves was at #2 singles as Jordan Barrett defeated Sam Tipton, 6-3, 6-2.
The Prairie Wolves fall to 2-13 overall and 1-2 in GPAC play.
