The Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis team ended their annual spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C., with a 5-4 victory over Concordia University (Wis.) on Friday (Mar. 23). It was the first victory of the season for the Prairie Wolves men.
NWU (1-11) finished 1-4 on their trip to Hilton Head. Other matches include: an 8-1 loss to St. Thomas, a 9-0 loss to Carleton, a 8-1 loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a 9-0 loss to St. Olaf.
The Prairie Wolves dropped two out of three doubles matches against Concordia with Carey Haefele and Seth Peters getting a 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles. In singles play, Nate Hoppe won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Seth Shimerda was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at No. 4 singles while Haefele and Peters also won their singles matches. Haefele's match at No. 5 was the closest of the day as he won 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.
Hoppe was the only NWU player to win two singles matches on the trip as he went 2-3 in singles play.
The Prairie Wolves open Great Plains Athletic Conference play on Thursday (Mar. 29) when they host Midland University at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
