Nebraska Wesleyan’s Zac Kerr (Jr., Grand Island, Neb., Grand Island High School) has been named to the Academic All-District VII First Team for men’s at-large sports in the college division.
Kerr has a 3.97 cumulative grade point average in accounting and led the Prairie Wolves to the NAIA Tennis Championships earlier this month. He made the All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Team in both singles and doubles this season, and helped NWU win both the GPAC postseason tournament and the NAIA Region III tournament.
The Nebraska Wesleyan men’s tennis team finished the 2006 season 16-13 overall and had their nine-match win streak snapped by NAIA No. 9-ranked Northwood University (Fla.) by a score of 6-3 in the first round of the national tournament. Individually, Kerr finished 11-15 in singles and 17-12 in doubles with teammate Nick Eker.
As a First Team All-District selection, Kerr will now be considered for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team honors. Just a junior, Kerr is already tied for fifth on the NWU all-time charts for career doubles wins with 43 and tied for seventh in team history with 43 career singles wins.
Award notes: District VII includes the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming; at-large sports include tennis, golf, swimming and wrestling among others; and the college division includes NCAA Div. II, III and NAIA schools. Nominations, votes and selections are made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
