Holmes Earns GPAC Tennis Player of the Week

April 20, 2011

Nebraska Wesleyan University senior Jamie Holmes has been named this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Tennis Player-of-the-Week for the week of April 11-17.

Holmes (Grand Island, Neb.) went 2-1 at No. 1 singles and 2-1 at No. 1 doubles for the Prairie Wolves as they went 2-1 on the week. He won his only GPAC match defeating Doane’s No. 1 player in singles and is now 4-1 in GPAC action in both singles and doubles play this season. He also defeated his opponent from Kansas Wesleyan and lost a hard fought three-set match against 25th-ranked Bethany (Kan.) No. 1 player.

The Grand Island H.S. graduate now has 42 career singles victories and needs one more win to move into the NWU career top 10 list. All-time against conference opponents, Holmes is 17-2.

Nebraska Wesleyan, which is 8-10 overall and a perfect 5-0 in GPAC, returns to conference play this afternoon with a match against Concordia University at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The Prairie Wolves currently sit alone in first place in the GPAC standings.
