Competing with just four player, Midland University was no match for the Nebraska Wesleyan University men's tennis team as the Prairie Wolves rolled to a 9-0 win over the Warriors on Wednesday (Mar. 30) in Fremont, Neb.
The win improves the NWU men to 4-9 overall and a perfect 2-0 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play to stay atop the league standings.
Midland had only four players in the match so NWU received two forfeit wins in singles action and another in doubles play to automatically go ahead 3-0.
They didn't need much help as all four Nebraska Wesleyan men won in straight sets in singles action. Jamie Holmes (No. 1), Nate Hoppe (No. 2), Mike Larsen (No. 3) and Drew Placek (No. 4) all were straight set winners with no player losing more than one game in a set.
In doubles play, Holmes/Hoppe won at No. 1 doubles, 8-5 over Evan Hoisington and Tyler Sherlock. Placek & Larsen defeated CJ Anderson and Adam Newport, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles.
Nebraska Wesleyan will next take on Hastings College this Saturday (Apr. 2) in Hastings.
