Colorado College defeated Nebraska Wesleyan University, 2-0, in men's soccer action on Monday (Sept. 3) at Colorado Springs, Colo., in a match that had three separate lightning delays.
NWU also lost 2-1 to the University of Texas-Dallas on Sunday to start the season 0-2.
In the Colorado College match the three delays totaled 1 hour 44 minutes. Finally after all the delays, the Tigers ended up with the 2-0 win. Colorado College had 13 shots in the first half, compared to just one for Nebraska Wesleyan but the score remained 0-0 through the first 45 minutes.
Only four minutes into the second half, the Tigers got on the board as Daniel Wright scored at the 48:49 mark. Just five minutes later Colorado College had scored again as matt Fechter scored off a long cross pass from Sean Parham.
The Tigers ended with 25 total shots and held NWU to just four.
Against Texas-Dallas, Colby Twist scored the first goal of the season to put NWU ahead 1-0 in the first half. However, UT-Dallas came back with two goals in the second half to earn the victory. Once again the Prairie Wolves were outshot by a wide margin with 27 for UT-Dallas and nine for NWU.
