Men's Soccer Finishes Year With 2-0 Victory

October 31, 2009

Nebraska Wesleyan sent their six seniors off on a good note as the Prairie Wolves finished the 2009 season with a 2-0 victory over Mount Marty College on Saturday night (Oct. 31) in men's soccer action at Abel Stadium in Lincoln.  The win capped off a successful 2009 Homecoming weekend on the NWU campus.

The Prairie Wolves evened up their record with the win to finish 7-7-4 overall and 4-6-2 in GPAC play under first-year head coach Mike Lynch.

Senior Cyrus Jaffery scored the first goal of the match at the 36:55 mark when he found the net on an assist from Brad Fullerton to put NWU up 1-0 at intermission.  The second goal of the night came from Chris Simley as he knocked the ball in off an assist from Andres Del Hierro.

Goakeeper Josh Miller posted his seventh shutout of the season with two saves for NWU.  It was a fitting way for Miller to cap off his successful four-year career as the starting goalkeeper for the Prairie Wolves leaving NWU ranked third in career saves and shutouts.

All six NWU seniors, Blake Gordon, Ben Hestermann, Cyrus Jaffery, Cole McCallum, Josh Miller and Jess Pieper were honored before the match.
