October 14, 2009

Devon Strecker scored a goal just two minutes into the second half to give Doane a 1-0 lead and that is all that they would need as the Tigers held on for the 1-0 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan in Great Plains Athletic Conference men's soccer action late Wednesday night (Oct. 14) at Abel Stadium in Lincoln, Neb.The loss drops NWU to 5-5-4 overall and 2-4-2 in the GPAC, while Doane improves to 6-7 overall and 5-3 in the GPAC.

Doane controlled much of the match as they had 17 total shots compared to only five for NWU.  The Tigers put the pressure on the NWU defense the entire match forcing goalkeeper Josh Miller to record six saves.

Nebraska Wesleyan had just one total shot in the first half, and the second half was not much better as the Prairie Wolves could not get their offense on track.

NWU will travel to Sioux City, Iowa this Saturday to face Morningside College.
