Midland Lutheran Holds Off NWU Men, 1-0

October 7, 2009

Midland Lutheran scored a goal midway through the second half and that would prove to be the only goal of the match as the Warriors held off Nebraska Wesleyan, 1-0, in a Great Plains Athletic Conference men's soccer match on Wednesday night (Oct. 7) at Abel Stadium in Lincoln, Neb.

Rob Capewell scored the lone goal at the 64:35 mark of the match for the game-winner for the Warriors.

The match was very physical with 24 total fouls and four yellow cards between the two teams.

Nebraska Wesleyan (4-4-4, 1-3-2 GPAC) had chances late in the match to score as they were on the attack, but goalie Eric Vrba had seven saves for the Warriors. NWU did have 16 total shots and seven on goal and Midland Lutheran had 12 shots with seven on goal.

The Prairie Wolves travel to Mitchell, S.D., on Saturday afternoon to take on Dakota Wesleyan University in another GPAC match.
