Morningside scored five unanswered goals as they raced out to a four goal lead and held on for a 5-3 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan in GPAC men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 22) at Abel Stadium.
NWU, which had their four-match winning streak snapped earlier this week, falls to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in GPAC while Morningside picks up just their second GPAC win to move to 2-6-1 in GPAC and 4-12-1 overall.
Things looked good for Nebraska Wesleyan early as Jake Lamphrere broke free on a breakaway and scored just 1:27 into the match to put the Prairie Wolves up 1-0.
The Mustangs would then score five straight. Two of the goals came before halftime as Mike Marian and Tyson Osborn both scored to put Morningside up 2-1 at halftime.
Morningside then got back-to-back goals from Logan Schaefers within a minute of each other near the beginning of the second half to go ahead 4-1. They extended the lead to four when Tyson Osborn scored in the 60th minute.
NWU tried to rally as Alex Thorson scored off a rebound and Colby Twist scored just two minutes later off a pass from Chris Simley, but it wasn't enough.
Nebraska Wesleyan has just two matches remaining as they host GPAC leader Hastings on Oct. 26 then travel to Briar Cliff next Saturday.
