Alex Thorson scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift Nebraska Wesleyan to a 2-1 victory over Mount Marty College in Great Plains Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Saturday (Oct. 15) in Yankton, S.D.
It marks the fourth straight victory for the Prairie Wolves as they improve to 5-9 overall and even their record at 3-3 in GPAC play.
The Lancers got on the board first when Jose Marquez-Garcia scored during the 17th minute to put Mount Marty ahead 1-0. That lead would stand at halftime as the Prairie Wolves were kept out of the end zone.
NWU finally got on the board at the 77:03 mark when Brad Fullerton tied the match at 1-1 with a goal. That score would stand at the end of regulation sending the match to overtime.
Thorson then scored the game-winner on an assist from Colby Twist to give NWU the 2-1 victory.
The Prairie Wolves outshot the Lancers 17-10 during the match. Scott Sutherland recorded three saves and got the win in goal for NWU.
Nebraska Wesleyan will go for its fourth straight victory this Wednesday night at Concordia.
