Last Minute Goal Lifts Westminster to 2-1 Win

Nebraska Wesleyan held a halftime lead, but Westminster scored two second half goals, including one in the final minute to earn a 2-1 victory over the Prairie Wolves in a NCAA III men's soccer match on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 4) in Fulton, Mo.

NWU falls to 0-2 on the season, while Westminster remains unbeaten at 2-0.

For the second straight match the Prairie Wolves nearly doubled their opponents in shots as NWU attempted 20 shots compared to only eight for Westminster.

The Prairie Wolves jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Colby Twist scored with less than 10 minutes left before halftime. Twist scored on an assist from Brad Fullerton.

Westminster tied the match as Ronald Moore scored in the 60th minute to make the score 1-1.

As the match appeared to be headed to overtime, Sean Peterson scored on a breakaway at the 89:57 mark with only three seconds remaining in the match. Peterson was able to score on the break away from a goalie kick.

NWU will attempt to earn their first win under head coach Sean Steele on Sept. 7 when they play at Central College.
