Storm Shut Out Prairie Wolves in Season Opener

September 1, 2011

Simpson College came into Abel Stadium on Thursday night (Sept. 1) and shutout Nebraska Wesleyan, 4-0, in the 2011 season opener for the Prairie Wolves men's soccer team. It was also the debut of new head coach Sean Steele.

Nebraska Wesleyan actually outshot the Storm for the match but could not find the open net. NWU had 20 total shots with eight on goal, compared to 14 shots for Simpson.

The Storm got on the board in the 12th minute of the match as Mark Lahart got the first of two goals of the match. That would be the only goal of the first half as Simpson led 1-0 at halftime.

Lahart got the scoring started in the second half just five minutes into the half as he scored on a free kick from 40 yards out.

Mitchell White also scored two goals for the Storm as he had a header off a rebound at the 58:17 mark then scored again in the 75th minute to give Simpson the 4-0 win.

NWU will look to bounce back and get their first win of the season on Sunday (Sept. 4) when they travel to Fulton, Mo., to play Westminster College.
