The Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer team closed out the 2012 season with a 2-2 tie to Briar Cliff University in the season finale on Saturday (Oct. 27) at Abel Stadium in Lincoln.
The Prairie Wolves finish the 2012 season, 8-7-3 overall and 5-4-1 in GPAC to finish fifth in the league standings after being picked to finish 10th.
Nebraska Wesleyan attempted 31 total shots in the match, compared to only six for Briar Cliff, but the Wolves couldn't get the shots in goal. BCU goalkeeper Dan Snider recorded 16 total saves.
NWU led 1-0 at halftime as Stephen Boakye scored on a nice assist from Colby Twist.
A three-minute span in the second half is what ultimately cost the Prairie Wolves the victory. Chase Beiermann scored for Briar Cliff on a corner kick in the 63rd minute, then less than three minutes later Bill Kurtenbach scored to give BCU the 2-1 lead.
Matt Woodman came up field to score off an assist from Chris Simley to tie the match at 2-2. NWU couldn't score the rest of the way as the match was sent to overtime.
In the overtime periods, NWU had nine shots, with four shots on goal, but couldn't convert.
