Central and NWU Play to 2-2 Tie

October 14, 2012

Nebraska Wesleyan ended its nonconference portion of its schedule on Sunday (Oct. 14) with a 2-2 tie against Central College in NCAA DIII men's college soccer action at Abel Stadium in Lincoln.

NWU (7-5-2) has its winning streak snapped at two matches.

It looked like the Prairie Wolves would extend their winning streak after Matt Woodman scored on a header off a throw in from AJ Johnson in the 74th minute to put NWU up 2-1.

However, Central answered right back and just four minutes later tied the match at 2-2 on a goal from Brandon Bautista.

Neither team would add another goal in the final 10 minutes to send the match to overtime. Offense was not at a premium in the two overtime periods as a combined four shots were taken in the 20 minutes of overtime as the match ended in a draw.

NWU jumped ahead 1-0 late in the first half as Alex Thorson scored off an assist from Chris Simley. The play started with a long send upfield by Colby Twist to Simley who centered it over to Thorson for the goal. The goal came with just 1:03 left before halftime as the Prairie Wolves led 1-0 at half.

Central tied the match in the 69th minute on a goal from Nick Hauenstein.

NWU will return to GPAC play on Wednesday night (Oct. 17) when they host Concordia University at 8 pm.
