Wolves Net Overtime Win in Battle of Wesleyans

October 6, 2012

Matt Woodman found the open net eight minutes into the first overtime period to give Nebraska Wesleyan a 3-2 OT victory over Dakota Wesleyan University a Great Plains Athletic Conference men's soccer match on Saturday (Oct. 6) at the Pepsi Complex in Mitchell, S.D.

With the victory, Nebraska Wesleyan goes over .500 in GPAC play at 3-2, while moving to 6-5-1 overall. They are now fourth in the GPAC standings. Dakota Wesleyan falls to 2-9-1, 1-3-1 GPAC.

Eric Moller scored in the 11th minute to the Tigers an early 1-0 lead in the match. That score would stand at halftime as NWU was unable to find the open goal despite nine first half shots.

Finally, in the 86th minute Colby Twist scored on a penalty kick to tie the match and send it to overtime.

In the overtime period, NWU attempted just one shot but it was the game-winner by Woodman.

Turner Mead got the victory in goal with eight total saves. As a team the Prairie Wolves had 18 total shots.

NWU returns home next weekend for a pair of matches. The Prairie Wolves host Mount Marty College on Saturday, then play Central College on Sunday afternoon.
