Sean Steele has been hired as the new head soccer coach at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Steele will be the head coach of both the men’s and women’s programs.
Steele brings 13 years of coaching experience to the Nebraska Wesleyan soccer program. He has been the assistant soccer coach for both the men and women at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for the past five seasons. While at UWO he helped coach the men to two trips to the NCAA III Tournament, including the 2010 team that advanced to the Final Four and place third. He also guided the women to the NCAA Tournament in 2006.
“Sean Steele has a tremendous soccer background both as a player and coach,” NWU Director of Athletics Ira Zeff said. “He has coached men and women at the college level and understands and values the student athlete concept. I am very excited to have Sean join the Prairie Wolves family.”
Steele has earned his USSF National “B” License, USSF National Youth License and NSCAA Goalkeeper Diploma. He served as a Wisconsin Olympic Development (ODP) staff coach and a USSF licensing instructor for Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association. He also was a Director of Coaching for the Oshkosh United Soccer Club.
“I am excited about working at a university whose intercollegiate programs have such a strong tradition of academic and athletic excellence,” Steele said. “Both soccer programs here at NWU have a lot of talented young players on the roster and my goals are to bring my experiences of leading winning programs to this campus.”
Steele replaces Mike Lynch who has coached the NWU soccer programs the past two seasons. Lynch was hired as head women’s soccer coach at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, Tennessee in April.
