Doane College scored three goals in a span of 10 minutes in the second half to pull away for a 4-2 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan in Great Plains Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday (Sept. 29) in Crete, Neb.
The Tigers remained undefeated in conference action at 4-0 in GPAC play, 7-3 overall while the Prairie Wolves fall to 2-7-1, 1-2-1 in GPAC.
Brad Fullerton got NWU on the board first as he scored on a penalty kick just 7:57 into the match to give the Prairie Wolves a 1-0 lead.
Doane tied the game at 1-1 when Juan Padilla scored at the 17:16 point of the first half to make the score 1-1 at halftime.
For the first 30 minutes of the second half, neither team was able to score. Then in the 76th minute Kyle Smith got the scoring started for Doane. Jake Miller then scored back-to-back goals within seven minutes to put Doane ahead 4-1 with four minutes to play.
Marcus Weiss added a final goal in the final four seconds of the match for NWU.
Doane attempted 22 total shots, holding NWU to just nine. Scott Sutherland recorded seven saves and one goal as starting keeper for the Prairie Wolves. Turner Mead replaced Sutherland and allowed the other three Doane goals.
