Simpson Downs NWU Men 3-1

September 1, 2010

The Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer team opened the 2010 season on the road at Simpson College on Wednesday night (Sept. 1) and fell, 3-1, to the Storm in a NCAA Division III match played in Indianola, Iowa.

NWU got on the board first in the match as the leading scorer from last season, Brad Fullerton found the left side of the net at the 31:40 mark to put the Prairie Wolves ahead 1-0. Fullerton scored on an assist from freshman Stephen Boakye from five yards outside the net.

However, that would be the only goal of the match for the Prairie Wolves as Simpson would score three unanswered goals in the second half to win 3-1. The Storm came out of halftime firing scoring two goals in the first five minutes of the second half. They would add an insurance goal in the 80th minute to seal the victory.

NWU freshman Scott Sutherland got his first collegiate start in goal for the Prairie Wolves and recorded six saves.

The Prairie Wolves will aim for their first win of the season on Monday (Sept. 6) when they make their debut at Abel Stadium by hosting Central College.
