Golfers Can't Hold Lead as Wolves Finish as GPAC Runner-Up

Battling windy conditions the Nebraska Wesleyan men's golf team shot a team score of 324 at the GPAC Qualifier #4 as the Prairie Wolves dropped back to finish as the runner-up at the 2011-12 GPAC Men's Golf Championships.

Northwestern College overcame an 11-stroke deficit as the Red Raiders shot a 305 on Monday to pass Nebraska Wesleyan and take home the GPAC Championship. The Red Raiders finished with a four-day total of 1217 to defeat the Prairie Wolves by eight strokes as they finished at 1225.

NWU did not have a single player break 80 on Monday at Prairie Green Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D. The meet was originally scheduled for Wild Oak Golf Club in Mitchell, S.D., but severe hail storms closed the course in Mitchell.

Nebraska Wesleyan had two players finish the four-round tournament in the top five. Freshman Drew Taylor finished in a tie for third place overall. Taylor had an 80 on Monday to finish with a total of 302 (72-75-75-80). Rory Doll completed the tournament in a tie for fifth with a total score of 308 (77-83-66-82).

Two players just missed the top ten as Logan Palmer and Beau Brown placed 13th and 14th, respectively. Palmer had a total of 313 (71-80-74-88), with Brown just behind at 314 (76-77-79-82). Ryan Boyer was the fifth player to compete for NWU on Monday and tied for the team lead with an 80 on Monday.

Brandon Thompson from Morningside College was the individual champion with a total of 296.
