High winds and cold temperatures led to a stroke average above 90 at the second GPAC Men's Golf Qualifier that was held Tuesday (Oct. 6) at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb. Nebraska Wesleyan shot a team score of 332 to fall back into second place in the team standings.
NWU entered round two of the GPAC Championships tied for first place with Morningside College. The Mustangs shot a team low round of 312 and now have the overall lead by 20 strokes in the team race.
Individually, just four players shot under 80 on a day that had wind gusts from 30-40 mph. Cam Jacobs from Morningside battled the conditions and shot a score of 73 to take the individual lead after two rounds at +1 144.
Kyle Jaacks, a junior from NWU, was the leader heading into Tuesday's round but shot an 85 to fall back into a tie for fourth place. Jaacks is the top placer for NWU, but two other Prairie Wolves are in the top 10.
Patrick Hanzel shot an 82 on Tuesday and now has a total of 155 to sit in a tie for seventh place, while Nate Jaeger is alone in 10th place with a 159.
Geoff Oliphant shot the low round for the Prairie Wolves on Tuesday with an 80.
