Nebraska Wesleyan University head men’s golf coach Brett Balak has announced that Scott Bruening plans to enroll at Nebraska Wesleyan University and play golf.
“We are looking forward to having Scott join our golf program,” Balak said. “He is a perfect fit for Nebraska Wesleyan because he is a true student-athlete that will represent the NWU men’s golf program in the classroom as well as on the course.”
Bruening, a 2008 graduate of Norfolk High School, was the 2007 Class A Individual State Champion as a junior at the Nebraska State Golf Championships. Bruening shot a two-day total of 146 (74-72) and won the state title in a playoff.
As a senior, Bruening tied for State Runner-up honors at the 2008 Class A State Golf Championships at Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb. Bruening led after day one of the championships and finished with a two-day total of 145 (73-72), just one stroke off the state championship.
“Obviously his success at state golf shows that he is a winner and that is what we are looking for,” Balak added. “Our goal is to compete for another NCAA III National Title and he can help us achieve that goal.”
The Prairie Wolves were the 2006 NCAA DIII National Champions and have qualified for the championships in five straight seasons, placing in the top four in four of those five seasons.
Scott Bruening is the son of Kevin and Tad Bruening from Norfolk, Neb.
