Nebraska Wesleyan opened the 2012 cross country season on Saturday (Sept. 15) by competing in the 22nd annual Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational at Pioneers Park.
The NWU men finished 15th overall while the women were 18th overall in the standings combining both University and College division.
Freshman Gabi Jenkins had an impressive debut for the Prairie Wolves as she placed 29th overall in the women's 6K race. Jenkins ran a time of 23:01.58 and was the highest overall NWU placer. Also placing in the top 50 was sophomore Erin Kautz. Kautz had a time of 23:30.68. One other Prairie Wolves runner was in the top 100 as Sarah Wheeldon placed 94th.
For the NWU men, Johnny Rutford was the first Prairie Wolf runner to cross the finish line. Rutford was 102nd overall. The next NWU runner was freshman John Gunderson who was 109th.
