Cross Country Teams Open Season at Woody Greeno

The Nebraska Wesleyan University cross country teams opened their 2009 season on Saturday (Sept. 19) when they competed at the 20th Annual Woody Greeno/Nebraska Cross Country Invitational at Pioneers Park in Lincoln. The NWU women placed second in the college division, while the NWU men were seventh in the college division.

Over 700 runners and 34 teams competed in the 20th anniversary of the Woody Greeno Invitational that was held on a beautiful morning at Pioneers Park.

For the NWU women, All-American Jackie Spelts was the top individual finisher as she crossed the line in 21:48.18 to place 17th overall. All five of the NWU top runners placed in the top 45 overall.

Katie Nelson was 32nd (22:29.13), while Hannah Kinberg also was in the top 40 at 38th (22:40.13). Hayley Sutter and Amanda Costello finished in 41st and 42nd, respectively.

Wartburg College won the college women's team race.

For the Nebraska Wesleyan men, ranked #16 in NCAA III, they place seventh in the college division with 279 points. Colorado School of Mines won the college team race with 42 points.

Senior Logan Watley was the top placer for NWU as he crossed the line in 25th place. Neil Wolford was right behind Watley for a 31st place finish. Also placing in the top 50 for the Prairie Wolves was Brian Copley. Rounding out the NWU scoring was Andy Stilmock (88th) and Eric Noel (89th).
