Nebraska Wesleyan Runners Dominate All-GPAC Cross Country

Nebraska Wesleyan dominated the 2011 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) All-Conference teams. Hannah Kinberg was named the 2011 Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year to headline the women’s team, while NWU co-coaches Ted Bulling and Ann Ringlein were the Women’s Coaches-of-the-Year. Five NWU women were All-GPAC, while eight Prairie Wolves were All-GPAC on the men’s side.

Hannah KinbergKinberg (Lincoln, Neb.) was the individual champion at the GPAC Championships with a 5K time of 18:23.47. Joining Kinberg on the All-GPAC team were four other teammates. Senior Hayley Sutter (Lincoln, Neb.) was the GPAC runner-up to earn all-conference recognition. Also on All-GPAC were sophomore Ali Tewes (Lincoln, Neb.), senior Malaina Huebert (Bradshaw, Neb.) and senior Katie Nelson (Lincoln, Neb.)

Leading the group of eight Nebraska Wesleyan men on the All-Conference team was senior Ben Paben who was the runner-up in the men’s 8K race. Paben (Beatrice, Neb.) is now a two-time All-GPAC performer. Joining Paben on the All-Conference team was senior Jordan Rector (Beatrice, Neb.), senior Mike Rathje (Lincoln, Neb.), freshman Parker Schoen (Lincoln, Neb.), senior Cole Marolf, sophomore Johnny Rutford (Lincoln, Neb.), senior Bobby Brown (Lincoln, Neb.) and freshman Matt Dunker (Beatrice, Neb.)

Bulling and Ringlein helped lead the Prairie Wolves women to their seventh consecutive GPAC team championship. The NWU men won their sixth title in the past seven years.

The NWU cross country teams now head to the NCAA Central Regional Meet this Saturday (Nov. 12) in Waverly, Iowa.
