Nebraska Wesleyan easily outdistanced the competition and swept both the women's and men's 2011 GPAC Cross Country Championship titles on Saturday (Nov. 5) at Pioneers Park in Lincoln.
Hannah Kinberg and Hayley Sutter went 1-2 in the women's race to lead the Prairie Wolves women to the team championship. NWU scored 28 team points to defeat second place Concordia by 56 points. Kinberg was the GPAC Champion running the 5k race in a time of 18:23.47. Sutter was the runner-up in a time of 18:34.14. Two other NWU runners finished in the top 10 as Ali Tewes was fifth (18:46.30) and Malania Huebert was eighth (19:05.67).
For the NWU the Prairie Wolves had six runners finish in the top 10 to finish with a team score of 24 compared to 80 for second place Dordt College.
Senior Ben Paben led NWU by finishing as the individual runner-up in a time of 26:15.44. Teammate Jordan Rector was just seconds behind in a time of 26:15.69. Also finishing in the top ten was Mike Rathje in fifth, Parker Schoen in sixth, Cole Marolf taking eighth and Johnny Rutford in 10th.
