The Nebraska Wesleyan cross country teams had a very good performance on Saturday morning (Oct. 18) at the Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational in La Cross, Wis. The NWU women placed eighth overall as a team, while the NWU men finished 10th.
A total of 25 teams competed in the women's race from all levels of competition. South Dakota State University won the women's team race.
For NWU, Jackie Spelts let the Prairie Wolves runners. Spelts had an outstanding race, placing fifth overall with a time of 21:55.1 She was just 24 seconds from the top placer.
Other top finishers for NWU were Bridget Baldwin in 23rd in a time of 22:36.3 and Hayley Sutter in 55th crossing the line in 23:10.6. The other runners rounding out the NWU team score were Malaina Huebert (61st) and Hannah Kinberg (84th).
The NWU men also competed against of field of 25 teams, placing 10th with 240 points. Wisconsin-La Cross was the team champion with 86 points.
Logan Watley was the top finisher for NWU placing 13th in a time of 25:29.5. Also finishing in good times for the Prairie Wolves were Neil Wolford in 30th place in a time of 25:59.3 and Brian Copley placed 35th in a time of 26:01. Rounding out the NWU team scoring was Ryan Osberg and Andy Stilmock.
The Prairie Wolf cross country teams now prepare to defend their conference titles at the GPAC Championships on Nov. 8 in Hastings.
