3-Point Shooting Lifts Dana to 87-64 Win

January 26, 2010

Dana College hit 14 3-point field goals shooting 53.8 percent from beyond the arc as the Vikings rolled to a 87-64 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan in Great Plains Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Tuesday night (Jan. 26) in Blair, Neb.

The 23-point loss is the biggest margin of defeat NWU has ever had against Dana in 113 previous meetings in men's basketball. The loss marks the third straight GPAC loss for the Prairie Wolves, their first three-game losing streak in GPAC action this season.

Jake Brandl was the main culprit for the Vikings as he had a game-high 27 points. Brandl caught fire from the outside hitting 7-11 from 3-point range, with five 3-pointers in the second half.

NWU actually led 24-23 with just over 11 minutes to play in the first half. Dana then outscored the Prairie Wolves 21-12 to end the half with a 44-36 lead.

The second half was very similar to last weeks road loss at Hastings when the Broncos went on a huge scoring run. During a seven minute stretch from the 17:00 mark until just over 10 minutes to play, the Vikings went on a 19-3 run to extend their lead to 27 points. NWU managed just one free throw during that stretch as the Vikings sealed the win to pick up only their third GPAC win of the year.

Besides Brandl's 27 points, AJ Arkfield had 16 points and Taylor Oltjenbruns had a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.

Andy Schweitzer scored a career-high 18 points on four 3-pointers to lead NWU. Jim Lance had 12, Nick Dinan 11 and Bryce Arp added 11 to round out the four NWU players in double figures.
