Nick Dinan attempted a layup at the buzzer, but it didn't go as Concordia held off Nebraska Wesleyan, 70-68, in a Great Plains Athletic Conference men's basketball rivalry game on Wednesday night (Jan. 13) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.

With the game tied 68-68, Concordia had the ball with 23.3 seconds remaining. Time was ticking away as they got the ball to the block where Porter Birtell made a layup and got fouled with 3.3 seconds left. Birtell missed the free throw to allow NWU to get the ball with 2.1 seconds left.

NWU inbounded the ball and called a timeout with 1.4 seconds remaining and the ball on the side. The Prairie Wolves got the ball in to Dinan streaking on the left side of the basket who had a good look but the ball wouldn't fall.

The Prairie Wolves had a chance to take the lead when they had the ball with 43 seconds left. However, a moving screen foul was called on Bryce Arp with 23.3 seconds as NWU was unable to get a shot off.

Both teams shot extremely well with both teams finishing over 50 percent. The Bulldogs were 10-20 from 3-point range which was the difference of the game. NWU shot a season-high 52.4 percent, but it wasn't enough.

Another strong note for Nebraska Wesleyan was their outstanding free throw shooting going 20-23 from the charity stripe, while Concordia was 10-13.

Four NWU players scored in double figures led by Bryce Arp off the bench with 15 hitting 9-11 free throws. Jake Spurgeon and Jim Lance each had 12, with Ryan Thramer adding 11. Dinan had seven rebounds.

For Concordia, Ryan Railey led the team with 15 going 5-11 from 3-point range. Tyler Byrd scored 14 and Porter Birtell scored 12. Sam Huebner had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
