Making their first ever appearance in the Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason tournament, the Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball team received the No. 6 seed in the 2012 GPAC Tournament bracket that was released Saturday night (Feb. 18).
The sixth-seeded Prairie Wolves will face the No. 3 seed Briar Cliff University in the quarterfinals on Wednesday (Feb. 22) in Sioux City, Iowa. Tip-off between the Prairie Wolves and Chargers will be 8 p.m., at the Newman Flanagan Center.
An automatic bid to the NAIA II National Tournament is on the line with the winner of the GPAC Tournament receiving an automatic trip to Branson, Mo. Dordt College, the 2012 GPAC Regular season champion, is the No. 1 seed and already has secured a spot at the NAIA II National Tournament. If Dordt wins the GPAC Tournament, the tournament runner-up receives the second automatic bid.
The NWU/BCU winner will face the winner of No. 2 seed Northwestern vs. No. 7 seed Mount Marty on Saturday (Feb. 25) in the GPAC Tournament semifinals. The GPAC Championship game will be played on Feb. 28.
Nebraska Wesleyan and Briar Cliff have played twice this season with the Chargers winning both meetings. BCU won 69-61 in Lincoln then defeated the Prairie Wolves, 67-61, on Jan. 18 in Sioux City. Briar Cliff was ranked No. 16 in this week's NAIA II Top 25.
