Nebraska Wesleyan University senior Andy Schweitzer was named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District team that was announced on Thursday (Feb. 2). He was voted to the District 6 First-Team in the College division.
Schweitzer now advances to the national ballot for Capital One/Academic All-America recognition that will be announced Feb. 20.
Schweitzer, a Bedford, Iowa, native, has perfect 4.0 GPA as an Accounting and Economics major. This season Schweitzer is averaging 7.3 points per game and is second on the team with 24 made 3-pointers. He has reached double figures in eight games this year including a career-high 19 points in a win over Doane. He has scored double figures in five of the last seven games.
The Beford H.S. product has started in each of the past three seasons for the Prairie Wolves. For his career, Schweitzer has now played in 77 games getting the start in 62 of those games.
Joining Schweitzer on the District 6 Academic All-District team were Nick Reed and Bryan Meyer from Doane College, Alex Knobbe from Midland University and Haydon Parks from Bethany College.
Student-athletes must meet four criteria to earn Capital One Academic All-District honors: 1) must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better, 2) must have at least two terms of attendance at the institution, 3) must be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility, 4) must be a starter or key reserve in their respective sport.
The All-District selection is determined by voting of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
