Minzel, Aylward Receive All-GPAC Honors

Two members of the Nebraska Wesleyan University men’s basketball team received All-GPAC honors on Wednesday (Mar. 5) when the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference all-conference teams were announced. Senior Marcus Minzel and sophomore Dylan Aylward received All-GPAC honorable mention recognition.

Minzel finished the 2007-08 season as the Prairie Wolves leading scorer. The Lincoln High School graduate averaged 13.5 points and led the team with 35 made 3-pointers. He finished 15th in the GPAC in scoring this season. Minzel finished his career with 1,057 points. Earlier this season he became the 32nd player in NWU history to reach 1,000 career points. He also made 125 career 3-pointers to rank seventh in school history. Minzel was an All-GPAC Second-Team selection as a junior.

Aylward averaged 11.6 points and 4.1 rebounds during his sophomore season. The Lincoln Southwest High School graduate was one of the most improved post players in the conference improving his scoring total by over six points per game. He also had 19 blocked shots to rank 12th in the GPAC in blocks per game.

Nebraska Wesleyan finished the 2007-08 season with a 14-13 overall record, its highest win total in five seasons. It was also the first winning season for the Prairie Wolves since the 2004-05 season.
