Two members of the Nebraska Wesleyan University men’s basketball team were named to the All-Independent Men’s Basketball teams announced on March 17 by the Association of Division III Independents. Senior Marcus Minzel was named to the All-Independent Second-Team and sophomore Dylan Aylward was selected to the Third-Team.
Minzel finished the 2007-08 season as the Prairie Wolves leading scorer. The Lincoln High School graduate averaged 13.5 points and led the team with 35 made 3-pointers. Minzel finished his career with 1,057 points. Earlier this season he became the 32nd player in NWU history to reach 1,000 career points. He also made 125 career 3-pointers to rank seventh in school history. Minzel also was an All-Independent Second-Team selection as a junior. He was named to the AD3I West Region All-Tournament team and was an All-GPAC honorable mention selection.
Aylward averaged 11.6 points and 4.1 rebounds during his sophomore season. The Lincoln Southwest High School graduate was one of the most improved post players in the association improving his scoring total by over six points per game. Aylward also received All-GPAC honorable mention recognition this season.
The All-Independent Men’s Basketball teams were selected by the men’s basketball coaches from member schools of the Association of Division III Independents.
Nebraska Wesleyan finished the 2007-08 season with a 14-13 overall record, its highest win total in five seasons. It was also the first winning season for the Prairie Wolves since the 2004-05 season.
