Nebraska Wesleyan shot 57.7 percent from the floor in the second half and overcame a three-point halftime deficit to improve to 2-0 on the early season with a 61-51 victory over Marvyille University on Saturday night (Nov. 22) in St. Louis, Mo.
It was a tale of two halves for the Prairie Wolves on Saturday. NWU struggled to put points on the board in the first 20 minutes as they were just 6-29 (20.7) shooting from the floor, including 1-9 from 3-point range. Maryville led 23-20 at the break.
Brandon Arp hit a 3-pointer at the 16:23 mark in the second half for NWU to give them the lead, and they would never trail again. The Prairie Wolves then went on an 18-5 run to open up a 16-point lead with three minutes to play and seal the victory.
It was a balanced scoring attack for the Prairie Wolves as three players reached double figures and two more had eight points. For the second straight night, Dylan Aylward led NWU with 16 points and eight rebounds. Brandon Arp and Jake Spurgeon each had 13 points, while Ryan Thramer and Lee Hullman added eight apiece.
The Prairie Wolves finished the game shooting 38.2 percent from the floor and only shot 53.8 percent from the foul line. NWU also had only three points from its bench.
