The Nebraska Wesleyan defense put the clamps down on Doane as the Prairie Wolves opened the Great Plains Athletic Conference season with a 56-42 victory over the Tigers on their home court Tuesday (Nov. 25) in Crete, Neb.
NWU (3-0, 1-0 GPAC) opened up a 15-point lead just before halftime and only allowed Doane to get within single digits one time in the second half. It was a 10-2 run over the final eight minutes of the first half that gave NWU the 32-19 lead at halftime.
Doane (4-5, 0-1 GPAC) was just 6-19 from the field in the second half and finished the game shooting a cold 32.6 percent.
The Prairie Wolves also dominated the glass where they had a +17 advantage on the boards outrebounding the Tigers, 39-22.
Senior Brandon Arp led the way for NWU with 12 points on 4-5 shooting. Fellow Gretna native, Jake Spurgeon also scored in double figures with 10 points. Dylan Aylward led NWU with eight rebounds to go along with his eight points.
Center Jack Lind led Doane with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Nebraska Wesleyan will have its home opener this weekend (Nov. 28-29) when they host the 20th Annual Snyder Classic. NWU will play Presentation College at 7:30 p.m., on Friday night then take on the University of Dallas on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
