Northwestern ended the first half on a 31-4 run and never looked back as the Red Raiders won their sixth straight game defeating Nebraska Wesleyan, 70-61, in GPAC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 24) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln, Neb.
NWU (8-9, 4-6 GPAC) came out of the gates firing and jumped out to an early 20-9 lead at the 11:30 mark of the first half. However, the Prairie Wolves made just two field goals in the final 11:30 of the half and Northwestern responded by going up 40-24 at halftime.
Northwestern built their lead up to 20 points in the second half, but the Prairie Wolves would outscore the Red Raiders 37-30 in the second half. NWU pulled within seven points with under one minute to play, but that was as close as they could get.
The Prairie Wolves shot just 32.1 percent from the floor in the first half as they closed the half shooting 2-12 after going up 20-9.
Brandon Arp led NWU with 15 points, Dylan Aylward scored 14 points with four assists and Ryan Thramer had 13 with a team-high nine rebounds.
Ben Brown and Kale Wiertzema both scored 16 points to lead Northwestern, who was held 15 points under their season average of 85 points per game.
The Prairie Wolves will attempt to snap their current three-game losing streak on Wednesday (Jan. 28) when they host Dana College at 7:30 pm.
