Nebraska Wesleyan jumped out to an early 18-4 lead and never trailed in the game as the Prairie Wolves won their second straight game with a 75-58 victory over the University of Sioux Falls in GPAC men's basketball action Saturday afternoon (Feb. 14) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln, Neb.
The Prairie Wolves improve to 10-13 overall and 6-10 in the GPAC, while USF falls to 14-14 and 6-10.
NWU came out the gates firing getting the early 18-4 lead with 11:19 to play in the first half. The Cougars did go on a 17-6 run to trim the lead down to three points, but the Prairie Wolves held a 38-32 lead at halftime.
Sioux Falls never got within six points in the second half as NWU built the lead up to as many as 12 points with over three minutes to play. The final three minutes, USF began to foul and sent NWU to the free throw line. The Prairie Wolves were able to go 9-14 from the foul stripe in the last three minutes to seal the win.
It was the first time since Dec. 6 that NWU scored over 70 points in a game. The 75 points was the second highest total of the season for the Prairie Wolves.
NWU shot 47.2 percent for the game, including 6-14 from 3-point range. Dylan Aylward had a solid performance with 18 points and seven rebounds. Ryan Thramer was 6-7 from the floor with 17 points and Brandon Arp added 10 points.
The two teams combined to shoot 62 free throws as 53 fouls were called in the game.
Sioux Falls was led by Thomas Frames who scored 15 points on 11-13 shooting from the free throw line. Leading scorer Matt Malloy was held to 0 points on 0-3 shooting.
NWU will be back at home on Tuesday (Feb. 17) when they host Midland Lutheran College
