Aylward Named 2nd-Team All-GPAC

Nebraska Wesleyan junior center Dylan Aylward was the team’s lone representative on the 2009 Great Plains Athletic Conference men’s basketball All-GPAC team that was announced on Wednesday (March 4).  Aylward received All-GPAC Second-Team recognition.

Aylward (Lincoln, Neb.) was the Prairie Wolves’ top scorer on the season averaging 13.4 points per game.  The 6’8 center led the team with 13 blocked shots and was third on the team in rebounding averaging 4.3 per game.

The Lincoln Southwest H.S., product led the team in scoring in 11 games during the season, and was the team’s leading rebounder in five games.

Aylward earned honorable mention All-GPAC honors as a sophomore.

Kale Wiertzema from Northwestern College was named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Player-of-the Year to headline the All-GPAC team.  Jeremiah Slough from Hastings College was the Defensive Player-of-the-Year, Skyler Bloch from the University of Sioux Falls was the Freshman-of-the-Year and Todd Barry from Briar Cliff University was the Coach-of-the-Year.

Nebraska Wesleyan finished the 2008-09 season with a 10-15 overall record and a 6-12 mark in the GPAC to finish in ninth place in the league standings.
