Long time conference rivals Nebraska Wesleyan and Hastings battled back and forth in a GPAC men's basketball contest with the Broncos coming out on top, 64-58, on Wednesday night (Dec. 5) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.

The Prairie Wolves (4-4, 0-4 GPAC) remain winless in conference play while the Broncos picked up their 10th win of the season to move to 10-2, 3-2 in GPAC.

Things looked bleak for the Prairie Wolves with under five minutes to play as they trailed by nine points at 57-48 with 4:39 left. However, NWU scored seven straight points and a layup by Trevor Johnson pulled the Prairie Wolves within two points at 57-55 with 3:27 remaining.

NWU had three straight possessions to tie the game but came up empty on all three then Hastings' Dylan Flinn made a layup in the paint to go up four points.

On the next trip down the floor, a controversial charging call was made on Byron Thompson as he drove for a layup to foul out Thompson and give Hastings the ball back. The Broncos made a 3-pointer on their end to go back up by seven points and that would all but seal the win.

NWU struggled shooting the ball in all three areas of the game as they hit only 38.9 from the floor, 23.1 percent from 3-point range (3-13) and just 13-24 at the free throw line (13-24). Hastings actually shot worse from the field hitting only 35.6 percent but the Broncos converted 17-20 at the free throw line which proved to be the difference in the game.

Trevor Johnson came off the bench to lead Nebraska Wesleyan with 13 points. Eric Jackson scored 12 points.

For Hastings, Brady Lollman scored 16 points and led the way with nine rebounds. Dane Bacon scored 14 with Dylan Flinn adding 13 points.

NWU will play their final home game before the Christmas break on Saturday as they host No. 7 Dordt College.
