Nebraska Wesleyan jumped out to a 19-point first half lead then had to get a basket in the final seconds to hold one, but they ended the 2010-11 season with a 57-55 victory over the University of Dallas in the consolation game of the AD3I Tournament in Santa Cruz, Calif.
The Prairie Wolves scored the first 16 points of the contest to lead 16-0 just five minutes into the game. They would extend the lead up to 19 points with 10:29 to play and looked to be on their way to a big victory.
Dallas then went on a 21-4 run before halftime and made the lead 31-27 at halftime.
The second half went back and forth with both teams trading leads. Late in the game, Jonah Bradley hit a basket with 2:34 to play to put NWU ahead 55-53. After two empty possessions, Dallas tied the game again as Barrett Brown hit a field goal to make the score 55-55 with 1:18 to play.
NWU turned the ball over on their possession, then Dallas missed a layup on their next trip to give the Prairie Wolves the ball with 40 seconds to play.
Jim Lance, the lone senior on the NWU team, got the ball in the paint and hit the game-winning shot with 11 seconds remaining.
Drew Assinesi attempted a shot at the buzzer for Dallas, but it didn't fall and NWU escaped with the two point win.
NWU shot 50 percent in the first half and finished the game at 48.8 percent from the floor, while holding Dallas to just 29.8 percent.
Senior Jim Lance led the Prairie Wolves in his final game in a NWU uniform. Lance scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds. The other player in double figures was Jonah Bradley who scored 11 points and had a team-high nine rebounds.
Nebraska Wesleyan finished the 2010-11 season with a 10-17 overall record.
