January 19, 2011

Hastings shot 58.6 percent from the floor in the second half and finished at 52.8 percent for the game as the Broncos defeated Nebraska Wesleyan, 77-68, in GPAC men's basketball action on Wednesday night (Jan. 19) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.

The Broncos (8-12, 4-6 GPAC) avenged an earlier loss this season to NWU back in November when the Prairie Wolves (5-11, 1-8 GPAC) picked up their lone conference win.

NWU has now dropped six straight games and are only 1-6 on their home court.

Hastings led by two at the break, 29-27, then both teams picked up the offense in the second half. Devon Manning scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half and sparked the Broncos to the win.

NWU tied their season high with eight made 3-pointers, but they allowed 77 points which was their second highest point total allowed all season.

Besides Manning's 20 points, Donovan Schultz was a big presence in the paint for Hastings with 18 points and eight rebounds on 8-10 shooting. Tobin Reinwald also scored in double figures with 13 points and a team-high nine boards.

Four different players reached double figures for the Prairie Wolves who had a balanced attack. Nick Dinan and Jim Lance both scored 12, while Bryce Arp had 11 and Trevor Johnson chipped in 10 off the bench.

The Prairie Wolves bench scored 38 points, compared to only nine for the Broncos.

NWU shot only 30.8 percent in the first half, but finished the game at 39.6 after hitting 13-27 in the second half.

Nebraska Wesleyan will now travel to Mitchell, S.D., on Sunday to face #25 Dakota Wesleyan at the Corn Palace.
